South Santee River South Carolina out to 20 nautical miles...
Tropical Storm Hanna will impact the eastern Carolinas tonight
with heavy rain...strong winds and dangerously high seas. Hanna
will accelerate to the northeast and away from the area on
Saturday. A trough of low pressure will persist behind Hanna
across the central Carolinas late Saturday through Tuesday.
Hurricane Ike will move into the Bahamas by the middle of next
week as a cold front approaches the Carolinas from the northwest.
Swells from Ike will begin affecting the coastal waters Sunday.

Tonight... Tropical storm conditions with hurricane conditions possible. E winds 35 to 40 kt with gusts to around 50 kt...becoming se 45 to 55 kt with gusts to around 60 kt after midnight. Seas around 19 ft. Seas around 14 ft near shore. Showers.
Sat... Tropical storm conditions expected with hurricane conditions possible. W winds 40 to 45 kt with gusts to around 55 kt...becoming SW 20 to 25 kt with gusts to around 30 kt in the afternoon. Seas around 14 ft...subsiding to 9 ft in the afternoon. Near shore...seas around 9 ft...subsiding to 7 ft in the afternoon. Showers in the morning...then a chance of showers in the afternoon.
Sat Night... SW winds 15 to 20 kt...diminishing to around 10 kt after midnight. Seas 5 to 7 ft...except 4 ft near shore after midnight.
Sun... W winds around 10 kt...becoming se in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 4 ft.
Sun Night... E winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.
Mon... E winds around 10 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft.
Mon Night... E winds around 10 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft.
Tue... NE winds around 10 kt...becoming E in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 5 ft.

Tropical Storm Warning, Hurricane Watch

A Tornado Watch has been issued. The center of Tropical Storm
Hanna is now about 240 miles south of Wilmington as it remains
just below hurricane strength and continues to move quickly
northward.

A Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch remain in effect
over the coastal waters from Surf City NC to the South Santee
River SC. A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm conditions
are expected within the next 24 hours.

A Tornado Watch has been issued until 5 am EDT.

... Storm information...

At 500 PM EDT... 2100z... the center of Tropical Storm Hanna was
located near latitude 30.8 north... longitude 78.7 west or about
160 miles... 255 km... south-southeast of Charleston South Carolina
and about 240 miles... 385 km... south of Wilmington North Carolina.

Hanna is moving toward the north near 20 mph... 32 km/hr. This
motion is expected continue tonight... with a turn toward the
northeast and a faster forward speed expected on Saturday. On
the forecast track... the center of Hanna should cross the
southeastern coast of the United States tonight or early
Saturday... then move along the mid-Atlantic coast later Saturday
and Saturday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph... 110 km/hr... with higher
gusts. Although no significant change in strength is forecast
before landfall... it would only take a small increase in wind
speed for Hanna to become a hurricane. Weakening is expected
after landfall.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 290 miles...
465 km from the center.

The minimum central pressure just reported by an Air Force
Reserve hurricane hunter is 984 mb... 29.06 inches.


... Winds...

Sustained tropical storm force winds will develop across the
coastal waters through this evening for the northeast South Carolina
coastal waters and the southeast North Carolina coastal waters.
Gusts up to 75 kt are possible tonight. Winds will begin to
diminish from south to north during Saturday morning. Seas are
expected to build up to 20 ft off the coast tonight.

A Tornado Watch has been issued. The potential will exist for
tornadic waterspouts as Hanna moves into the area. The threat for
tornadoes and waterspouts is usually highest to the northeast and
east of the storm center.
