South Santee River South Carolina out to 20 nautical miles...
strong Tropical Storm Hanna will cross the waters overnight...
then accelerate away from the area on Saturday. A trough of low
pressure will persist behind Hanna across the central Carolinas
late Saturday through Tuesday. Hurricane Ike will move into the
Bahamas by the middle of next week as a cold front approaches the
Carolinas from the northwest. Swells from Ike will begin affecting
the coastal waters Sunday.

Seas around 19 ft...building to 20 ft after midnight. Near shore... seas around 14 ft...building to 16 ft after midnight. Isolated tstms. Rain likely late in the evening...then widespread rain after midnight.
Sat... Tropical storm conditions expected with hurricane conditions possible. W winds 25 to 30 kt with gusts to around 45 kt...becoming SW 15 to 20 kt with gusts to around 30 kt in the afternoon. Seas around 11 ft...subsiding to 7 ft in the afternoon. Near shore...seas around 8 ft...subsiding to 6 ft in the afternoon. A chance of rain in the morning...then a slight chance of rain in the afternoon.
Sat Night... SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts to around 20 kt... diminishing to around 10 kt after midnight. Seas around 6 ft... subsiding to 5 ft after midnight. Near shore... seas around 5 ft... subsiding to 4 ft after midnight.

Tropical Storm Hanna is now 140 miles south-southwest of
Wilmington.

Tornado Watch.

... Storm information...

At 11 PM EDT... the center of Tropical Storm Hanna was located
near latitude 32.4 north... longitude 79.1 west or about 140
miles south-southwest of Wilmington North Carolina.

Hanna is moving toward the north near 20 mph. This motion is
expected to continue during the next several hours with a gradual
turn to the northeast and an increase in forward speed on
Saturday. On the forecast track... the center of Hanna should be
moving across eastern North Carolina early Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph with higher gusts.
Although no significant change in strength is forecast before
landfall... it would only take a small increase in wind speed for
Hanna to become a hurricane. Weakening is expected after landfall.

Latest minimum central pressure was 978 mb or 28.88 inches.

... Winds...

The latest buoy observation from Frying Pan Shoals was showing
sustained winds at 35 knots with gusts up to 47 knots. Sustained
tropical storm force are expected through early Saturday morning.
In addition... gusts up to 75 kt are possible. Winds will begin to
diminish from south to north during Saturday. Seas are expected
to build up to 25 ft off the coast tonight.

... Tornadoes...

A Tornado Watch remains in effect. The potential will exist for
tornadic waterspouts as Hanna moves into the area. The threat for
tornadoes and waterspouts is usually highest to the northeast and
east of the storm center.
