... TROPICAL STORM WARNING IN EFFECT...

535 PM EDT Fri Sep 5 2008

... Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect...

... Areas affected...

This statement recommends actions to be taken by persons in...
... The central Chesapeake Bay... the southern Chesapeake Bay... the
mid Atlantic coastal waters... the lower Eastern Shore of
Maryland... interior southeast Virginia... South Hampton roads
Virginia... the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the peninsula of
southeast Virginia.

... Watches/warnings...

No additional hazards are in effect.

... Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Have workable flashlights or portable lanterns and a battery-
powered radio. Have a supply of spare batteries. Use battery-
powered lights instead of candles since fire fighters and
emergency personnel may not be able to reach you during the
storm.

Boat owners should take action now to secure their boats. If out
on the open water... make way to seek safe Harbor. Be especially
cautious near inlet entrances where the incoming swell could
become steep when the tide is falling.

... Storm surge and storm tide...

Storm surge flooding of 1 to 2 feet above normal tide levels is
expected along the Bay. Storm surge flooding of 1 to 3 feet above
normal tide levels is expected along the coast... along with large
and dangerous battering waves. Coastal flooding will be greatest
around the times of high tide mainly during Saturday afternoon.

... Winds...

Sustained tropical storm force winds are expected to spread north
through the region this evening. These winds are
expected to end from south to north during the day on Saturday.
The strongest winds will occur late Friday night continuing
through Saturday in the 35 to 45 mph range with gusts up to 60
mph.

... Inland flooding...

Expected rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches could cause local
flooding of small streams... creeks... and highly urbanized areas.
The heaviest rains will be west of the coastal areas but isolated
heavy thunderstorms are possible.

... Tornadoes...

A potential will exist for tornadoes as Hanna approaches. The
threat will be highest as the storm passes to the west of the
area tonight and Saturday. A Tornado Watch is now in effect.

... Next update...

This statement will be updated around 9 PM.
