Flash Flood WarningIssued by the National Weather Service at 9:26 PM CDT on July 3, 2008
... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 1130 PM CDT for eastern Madison County...
At 921 PM CDT... an automated river gage along Silver Creek... just east of Troy... indicated that Silver Creek was beginning to flood in this area.
Although it appears that any additional rain over eastern Madison County will be fairly light... the runoff from the downpours of earlier this evening will be continuing the flash flood threat for several more hours.
Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Worden... Prairietown... Livingston... Dorsey... CArpenter and Alhambra.
This warning also includes... Interstate 70 in Illinois from Exit 24 to Exit 52. Interstate 55 in Illinois from Exit 23 to Exit 52.
A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.
Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle.

The Flood Warning continues for the Mississippi River at Alton ld 26 tw * until further notice. * At 8 PM Thursday the stage was 31.8 feet. * Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * Flood stage is 21.0 feet. * Forecast... the river is forecast to continue falling to near 26 feet by Wednesday morning.

* urban and small stream flood advisory for... Madison County in southwest Illinois
* until 1000 PM CDT
* at 553 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated slow moving thunderstorms producing heavy rain over Madison County... primarily along and east of an Alton... Edwardsville... St Jacob line. Since 4 PM... .rainfalls of one to one and one-half inches may have already fallen in some areas... and another inch of rain may fall in eastern parts of the County by the time the storms exit... around 7 PM.
* Silver Creek... Indian Creek... and the Cahokia canal may experience rapid rises due to this heavy rain.
This warning includes the cities of... Alton... Bethalto... Collinsville... Edwardsville... Glen Carbon... Godfrey... Granite City... Highland... Madison... Maryville... Pontoon Beach... Troy... Venice and Wood River.
An urban and small stream flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
Children should never be allowed to play in and near flood waters... even if the water appears to be shallow. The fast flowing water can easily sweep a child to their death!!
